What you see here is the 2009-2010 Legacy Magazine staff photo. The idea was brought to life during our last planning meeting. It was shot by Martin Mccalister, processed by Kim Foster and "photoshopped" by yours truly. The whole thing was very spontaneous and very fun to be a part of! Enjoy!

Instead of studying for my last final and writing the two papers that I need to write, I have decided to take some time to post these old shots of Chicago. A friend of mine was asking for some pictures of buildings and in searching for some I found these. Enjoy.

Assignment from work : SNAPSHOT - Panning Cars

I shot another SNAPSHOT for work. A SNAPSHOT is a moving slide show of pictures exhibiting one single theme or topic. I was actually shooting a sunset snapshot from the top of some steps to a building when I decided that something with motion would be much more interesting. I decided to try panning for the first time. Panning is when you set your shutter to be open long enough for motion blur and then you follow your subject, keeping it in the same framing until the shutter closes. One problem with panning is that you lose sight of the subject while the shutter is open. My work around this was to simply look over the top of the camera and use the end of the lens as a viewpoint to track the subjects. Using a tripod (not necessary) I was able to follow some cars as they drove by moderately slow. Here are some of my favorites.

I recently shot pictures of the LSU Police Department showing their new arms. Each vehicle has been equipped with a rifle (M4 I think) and a shotgun. Evidently safety has become an issue on campus and has been addressed with the re-armament of the campus police. Many people agree with this decision and, for obvious reasons, many don't. Personally I never feel threatened on campus even though statistics say I should. Maybe its because I take precautionary measures I assumed to be common sense. Dont walk alone in dark areas. Dont talk to the guy speeding down a one way street going the wrong way. Dont approach the person who seems complelty uninterested in anything but his music until he sees you alone in a dark place finishing up your conversation with the Knight Rider. All said and done, Im not trying to imply that the statistical victims did not care about their own health or that they are less intelligent than I claim to be; but, rather they share an overly optimistic view of LSU's evening populus. Maybe they forget that, unlike many other campus's, LSU campus is open to the public and is directly on a main road. Anyways here are the guns...

Wearable Wonders

My most recent assignment from work took place on Saturday night at the Louisiana State Museum of Art. There was a fashion show entitled "Wearable Wonders". I saw a lot of really interesting designs and met the people behind who designed them. Although there weren't many restriction as to what was allowed for a design, each person still did a great job of translating an abstract concept into a tangible and appealing work of art. In the short time that I was there I learned a few things : Fashion shows are entertaining,. People at fashion shows wear less clothing. I love my job.

For those of you who do not know, I am now a photographer for the LSU Reveille. My most recent assignment was a SNAPSHOT. Snapshots are sets of pictures that show objects/places of interest around campus to be featured at the Reveille's website : www.lsureveille.com . The subject of the assignment was windows; I was to take pictures of windows with shots looking in from the outside and vice versa. See below for my favorites or click here to see all of the shots. There is a new building planned for construction called the Spire. It is one of the greatest architectural masterpieces ever planned, next to the Burge in Dubai. My recent trip to Chicago was a great one as usual. I took a boat tour and got to see the buildings from a different angle. Our tour guide was also very knowledgeable about the history of the buildings and any interesting stories related to their founding people. I would definitely recommend a boat tour to anyone planning on making a trip to Chicago. Itll make you look at the architecture in a new way. Also, sorry for the lack of updates, Ill try to keep them coming at a fair rate.

A couple of days ago I went out to get some shots for a photography contest. The subject was supposed to be a landscape so I drove down the road to this crop/field with some cropping/field tool thats pretty big. As I was walking back to the car after getting enough shots I decided that the lighting was just right to get some of the car. As for the landscape shots, Im less than satisfied. Now that you guys have seen the scene (no pun intended) I would like to hear what you have to suggest as to how to capture it properly. You don't have to be a photographer to make a suggestion, something like "a little to the left" is just fine. Thanks!

I wouldn't mind seeing this sign at all because it means that a beach is nearby or that the sand im standing on is in fact beach sand. Luckily while I was there I had no encounters with the little ****'s.

Natchitoches Jazz Fest

This past weekend I was lucky enough to goto the Natchitoches Jazz Fest. It was a long day as we started setup of the stage at 7am and were loaded up by 1am the next morning. Besides that I had a great time helping out, shooting pictures, and most of all, learning the technicalities of a live stage production. Believe it or not a good part of the sound work takes place while the music is going. The sound guys are constantly checking levels, knocking out unpleasant frequencies, leveling, panning, etc... all while under pressure of pleasing the band. Respect to you guys. Here are some shots showing that show the event before and during it. The big Yamaha box contains a mixing board too big to be taken out of the box. The whole box with its top off is propped on a stand. Enjoy.

Hello again to everyone. Its been a long time since Ive updated. I was in London during Christmas break and found myself busier then usual there and even when I returned. Now that I have finally got school timing down I can set some aside for the site. I will be posting my London trip in a series of posts as theres too many to have them up all at once. New Years was great, as was Christmas. Also, for those interested, I will be offering portrait sessions soon so keep an eye out and check back for updates. The first couple of shots dont show much of London as they are more like stock photos.

Sunsets in Florida redefine sunsets. Never have I seen such strong colors or almost artistic looking skyscapes as I have in Florida. I call this one Palm Safari because it almost seems like a safari shot with the exception of that one lone palm tree.

Jacksonville, Florida : My Recent Trip

Here are some shots from my recent trip to Florida. The nighttime shot at the beach was a 30 second exposure. That means that I set the camera to leave the shutter open and absorb light for 30 seconds. The only reason it came out this dark was because it was 12 at night. For any of you that decide to try this don't forget to have a tripod or a steady surface to put the camera on because even pressing the shutter butto n could create shake that will blur the image.

I decided to try a panorama for the first time so I started thinking "where would be a good place tot try this out? What scene has to many interesting activities to fit into one frame?" The Indian Mounds. For those of you who have never been on LSU's campus during gameday, your missing out. Campus transforms completely. It is not so much a school campus as it is a haven for diehard LSU fans from all around the state who set up shop on any piece of land that they can fit on. This panorama includes the two mounds on either side with Huey Long Field House in the middle.

Natchez Balloon Festival

On November 20th I attended the Natchez Balloon Festival in Natchez, Mississippi. I had a great time shooting pictures of many things through the day. Natchez has a lot of character making it a great place for photos of all sorts. Throughout the course of the day we saw hot air balloons, live concerts, and monumental homes. This post marks the first step of making Images of a Vision a thriving part of my usual activities. The first set of photos will be of the Natchez Balloon Festival. Although it was a hot air balloon festival, there were plenty of other things there to keep you entertained. They had some great bands playing such as Better Than Ezra and an extremely talented group named Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes. I would like to ask everyone who visits to leave comments and even suggestions as to what you would like to see on this blog.
